I used to buy books from www.blacklibrary.com/new-titles on a regular basis a few years ago, but I cannot afford to now. I still have my old library to read as I am not writing stories now.
Not a topic of general interest as people tend to shy away from issues of mental health.
For many years, I have had occasions when I lose a day in a month, at that rate it is not serious, but when I lose two days in a week the matter goes up many notches on the scale of priority.
I have a scan booked for next month, but I am considering cancelling the appointment. Not because I am scared of finding out I have Alzheimer's disease, or because I am concerned on the effect it will have for the family knowing what lies ahead for us.
I am concerned that after all the bad that has happened/is happening in my life this year, this will tip the balance for me.
I put the memory losses down to increased stress caused by the loss of my disability allowance this month.
A new laptop is a priority.
I have been forced to admit that my laptop has finally has his time; he did well by me as I got him from a friend six years ago. If I was writing short stories I may have been concerned, but I find it hard to get motivated - www.alsdominion.co.uk/home/what-is-my-motivation?
The reading room
I will try to keep my page www.alsdominion.co.uk/the-reading-room running for as long as I can, even if all it does is get readers to my blog.
Writing a play.
Several years ago, I undertook an online writing course. The result of which was I came in the top 5% of writers on the course, and most had been writers who had earned reps for many years.
In the beginning, I was in the middle of the class, then we changed to writing dialogue-driven work and I hit my stride. I cannot understand the problem of writing dialogue.
There are a few easy to recall rules -
A different line for each speaker.
Let the reader know who is talking if you have more than two people involved in the conversation.
At various times, it has been suggested that I should try my hand at writing for TV/Radio as most of my work is dialogue-driven. I did send a story to the BBC five years ago, but I didn't make the cut with over 2,000 other entries in the contest.
Being paid as a writer.
I wonder what if feels like to read the words "Dear Mr. Place, we are interested in publishing your book," and not to read the words "You will need to pay $1,500 for the process?
That is the trouble with being an independent, and unknown, writer; the only offers you get are from vanity press publishers asking for money. If you have paid them what incentive do they have to help your book sell?
In the end, I got so disheartened by the fake news - www.alsdominion.co.uk/home/fakenews - I stopped believing I was an excellent writer - www.alsdominion.co.uk/home/how-things-played-out-for-me.
The kicker here is that they expect you, as the writer, to publicize the book.
Not that I think my story will get accepted, but I sent my story (God Walks These Dark Hills) to malcolmdown.co.uk/index.html last month.
Publishing 101 - A genuine publisher will NOT ask for money, they get their fees from sales of the books.
A bumper day for the blog
Yesterday was a bumper day for the blog www.alsdominion.co.uk/, as it had over 250 articles read by 105 people. It would have been nice to have some sales for my e-books to report, but getting readers is now more important to me.
Writing never paid for me.
In the time I've been writing, I never made more than $1 a week, even at the height of my popularity four years ago.
I blog because people will read these free posts, even if they aren't willing to help me by buying my e-books.
Buy your e-books from my page on Amazon and Draft2Digital.
It's sad to say but unless I get a few sales for my e-books on Amazon www.amazon.com/-/e/B007U50BOI or Draft2Digital www.draft2digital.com/book/ this week, I will stop putting stories for sale.
It has been a struggle to sell, and there has been little success for me in my decade as an author.
Follow me for a variety of music
For some years, I have had a YouTube channel www.youtube.com/channel/UC4b4JDa7P_b2a2110tFdLWw?view_as=subscriber. The music on there is not only Gospel music.
In the next month or two, I hope to add some more lists of tunes I like to the channel.
I may be using my channel for voice recognition promotion of my blog.
