When I used to chat to writer friends in the USA, this is the time of year they told me they looked forward to most - the Christmas boom - I never had the rush of sales at this time of year; my rush used to be at the beginning of the vacation period (June to July).
My friend, Yezall Strongheart designed the cover to my most read ghost story.
One of the contests I entered in this month's issue of Premier Christianity magazine has the prize of a free book, but having my article printed is enough reward for me.
It's been so long since I had an article in print, I can't recall which magazine it was in.
With Cyber Monday reducing prices, I was able to upgrade my Weebly blog cheaper than normally; the outcome is that I now know that YouTube has had a minimal effect on my posts, but Twitter is the main reason for the increase in readers.
Last month I entered two contests to win some free book worth over £200 for each contest.
One is in Premier Christianity magazine, and the other is for books from the Warhammer selection.
To enter the PC contest, I needed to subscribe to the magazine for this year, that was no problem as I was seeking a religious magazine as I needed to find some peace in my life this year with all the difficulties that continue to mount.
To enter the Warhammer contest, I needed to buy a book; this was no problem as I often buy books from the Black Library pages. When I started to write it was one of my goals to have a book in their collection, I did try three times but got nowhere.
My best-selling science fiction series (Forgestriker) started with the intention of being sold on the site.
Years ago, I used to enter so many writing contests that I lost track of where I had sent stories. I soon learned that most of those contests are rigged.
Charity begins at home.
Until two years ago, at this time of year, I would spend time promoting a series of charity books I was involved in. But that changed because the people I was writing with had contracts and work, and all I have is my blog; at the time I'd blog to help them but nobody did anything to help me.
The best month of the year.
That is correct, it is the best month of the year for my sales; the kicker is that the truth is less glamorous than it sounds - the truth is that this month is not good, but better than the rest of the year; not that beating one sale a month is a big target to beat.
For December to become the best month I need to sell four e-books this month, that may appear a small task, but the reality of my work is that those sales will be equal to my best quarter of the year.
Magazine article writer.
It isn't generally known, but several years ago I had articles published in a variety of magazines ranging from Country music to Motorcycle racing, and from Folk music to Yahoo.
I don't boast about these articles as I only got paid for the one by Yahoo, and the one I did for a magazine in Bridgnorth, nr Wolverhampton for their final folk festival before it moved to Shrewsbury.
Readers are more important to me.
The most important thing this year has been keeping my readers for this blog, you are the reason I keep writing.
For several months I have not checked to see if any of my e-books on Amazon or Draft2Digital have sold, why?
On Draft2Digital I get paid when my sales reach $10, and the last time I checked, I had only earned $5.50 in four months, so at that rate, I won't get paid until June at the earliest.
I can't complain, I did say getting readers was more important than getting sales to me; so seeing masses of FREE e-books being taken-up should be pleasing; if only 1% leads to sales, I'd be happy.
On Amazon, I had not sold an e-book in so long that I can't recall the last I sold, or when it was. If I earn $1.50 a year from Amazon, I consider I did well.
One of my favorite radio channels is AccuRadio www.accuradio.com/?name=Southern%20Gospel&b0=Christian ; I can relax and listen to a selection of Gospel Music from many eras., like any collection I have my favorites and ones I don't wish to listen to, but there are also lots of groups I have got to like by taking the risk of listening to unknown singers.
I also listen to my selections on my YouTube channel www.youtube.com/channel/UC4b4JDa7P_b2a2110tFdLWw?view_as=subscriber
It satisfies me.
When I started to write my Christian stories www.alsdominion.co.uk/the-reading-room/what-caused-the-change, I had no wish other than to try to attract new readers to my blog, but as time goes on, if the Lord is satisfied with my stories, then I am satisfied.
